PSS Sleman is gearing up for a crucial stretch in the Liga 1 2024/2025 season as they aim to avoid relegation. With only seven matches left, head coach Pieter Huistra has set an ambitious target of securing 12 points to enhance their survival chances.

Currently positioned at the bottom of the standings in 18th place with 22 points, the Super Elja has managed to achieve seven victories, four draws, and suffered 16 defeats this season. "It’s challenging to predict how many points we will earn since the outcomes of our opponents' matches are uncertain. In our situation, gathering points is the priority," Huistra expressed in a recent interview.

Chasing the Goal

Huistra emphasized that aiming for 11 to 12 points should be the team's focus, yet he remains optimistic that they might exceed this target. "I believe we need around 11-12 points to be safe. That’s a safe assertion, but we could potentially achieve more," he asserted.

The upcoming matches will pose significant challenges as PSS faces formidable opponents like Persib Bandung, Persija Jakarta, and Dewa United. However, Huistra notes that matches against PSIS Semarang and Madura United—teams similarly positioned—will be critical in their fight for survival.

"The matches against PSIS and Madura are crucial. If we win all our games but lose to these two, it won’t help our cause. We must secure victories against these direct rivals," he added.

In a tightly contested relegation battle, PSS shares the same point total with Semen Padang, also sitting on 22 points, just two points adrift of safety. Every point counts as they strive to climb out of the danger zone and secure their place in Liga 1 for the next season.
